As of this morning at 9 am PDT the steam summer sale went live. An annual sale that brings massive discounts to 100’s of PC games and there are definitely some gems to grab at a big discount. I’m going to list a few gems below by genre that I recommend grabbing.
Colony Sims
This is an awesome colony sim. Think dwarf fortress but without the insane levels of world-building and an awesome pixel art style to it. I’ve sunk countless hours into this game and I keep coming back. With regular updates during its early access, this is definitely one to not pass on.
Oxygen Not Included 40% off
Klei, the makers of Don’t Starve, put out gold when they make a game. Oxygen Not Included does not stray from that. This colony sim, despite its cute looks, can be brutal. You are tasked to survive on an inhospitable asteroid. Progressing through research and make life manageable and happy for your dupes. You’re always on the brink of death and while it’s relaxing to play, do not get complacent or the whole colony will collapse in a blink of an eye!
Automation
Autonauts 50% off
In this gem, you are tasked with creating a colony on an alien planet. It’s just you in the beginning but you make robots and through a visual coding, you program these robots to do tasks and automate everything. This game is cute and challenging and is one of those you start, then look at the clock and realized it’s 3 am and you need to sleep.
Factory Town 25% 0ff
A colony/automation builder that is incredibly addicting. Build yourself a functioning town using an automated system. Create transportation networks to feed into these systems all in a 3d world. It offers incredible depth that will keep you coming back for more. Plus, they just added trains!
FPS
Gunfire Reborn 12% off
This game is the sleeper hit of the year for me so far. It takes the fun elemental gunplay of Borderlands and pairs it with the run changing items of say Risk of Rain. It has 4 players online co-op to add to the fun as well. While fresh into its early access it has a responsive dev and updates have been steady.
