Today Playstation’s Shuhei Yoshida, Head of Playstation Indies, announced the Playstation Indies Initiative. In a blog post on the Playstation blog, Shuhei goes on to explain that this initiative is design to help shine a light on indie games in this super-competitive market.
Their hopes are to “spotlight and support the best of the best indie games being published on PlayStation and the entire indie community as a whole.” PlayStation wants to be the best place to develop, find, and play great indie games. Reminds me of their stance with the PS4 prior to launch and I’m all for that. I also wonder with them mentioning the entire community, could we see more PlayStation backed games that aren’t exclusive? Only time will tell.
While details about the initiative are not fully available they have confirmed their game streaming service, PlayStation Now will be receiving one indie title every month, starting with Hello Neighbor in July. This is promising for a service I long thought was on it’s way out.
9 games were announced this morning that will be coming to both PS4 and PS5. You can check these out below.
In all this is awesome news for indies, and PlayStation. Indies are absolutely essential to the market, especially so as AAA games keep getting more expensive and more locked into being the same thing due to fear of experimenting with such huge budgets.
